Sweden passes same-sex marriage law

April 2, 2009

In a 261-22 vote, the Swedish parliament decided that same-sex marriages should be permitted in Sweden.  Sex couples are now treated equally in all aspects, but not everybody is thrilled.  Yvonne Andersson a member of the Swedish parliament who obviously was one of the 22 who opposed the law, stated “Unfortunately this is not an April Fool’s Day Joke, this is reality”  You can’t make everybody happy all the time, but this is not surprising.  Sweden tries to remain neutral in many political matters because as a whole it is a peaceful country.  Same-sex marriages are major issues in many countries around the world, but it is one that has been alleviated for the Swedes.  Other countries should model Sweden’s open mindedness to change when regarding pressing manners.
