And then there were 2

April 5, 2009

Michigan State used some home cooking to defeat the five point favored Uconn Huskies in the first game of the double header in Detroit.  As they have done throughout the tournament, the Spartans used their cohesive unit mentality to dismantle AJ Price and the Huskies down the stretch.  Forcing turnovers and hitting timely shots has put Michigan State in the national championship.  A great overall team effort, not many people expected Michigan State to be in Detroit this weekend, let alone make the national championship.  They will host North Carolina in a game that will be the Spartans toughest battle yet.  UNC controlled the entire game against the red hot Villanova Wildcats.  Ty Lawson led the charge at the point, and as of now it is hard to imagine how the Tar Heels can be defeated.  Then again, Michigan State has beaten Kansas, Louisville, and Uconn in the last three games.  Combined with the fact that the game is in Detroit, should make for a great game.  These two teams faced off at Michigan State in December, and UNC blew out the Spartans by 35.  Tom Izzo will have his team prepared this time around, and don’t be surprised if the Spartans shock the Tar Heels to win their first national championship since 2000.
