Vegas loses a legend

May 4, 2009

On thursday night Las Vegas lost one of its elite entertainers.  Danny Gans passed away in his sleep thursday night, and this was a shock to say the least.  The fifty two year old Gans was a drug free health nut.  He complained of not feeling well after his show on Wednesday night, but nobody expected this tragedy.  If you have ever been to Las Vegas you know who Danny Gans is when you land at McCarren airport.  There is a huge billboard of him hovering above the baggage claim area.  Once billed as “the man with many voices”, Gans began his career as professional baseball player.  Drafted by the Chicago White Sox, a torn achilles tendon forced him to transition into another field.  After a short stint on Broadway, Gans moved to the stratosphere hotel, and the Rio shortly after.  In 2000 he found his permanent spot at the Mirage where a Danny Gans theatre was built for him.  Last year he left the Mirage for the Encore, but he will mostly be remembered for his immense success at the Mirage.  He entertained millions of people over the years, and it is sad to see him go.
