Melo and Nuggets flying under radar

May 10, 2009

As Carmelo Anthony’s three pointer went right through the hoop with one second left on Saturday night, the Nuggets all of a sudden find themselves up 3-0 on the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.  Everybody is talking about the Cavs and Lakers, and Lebron and Kobe.  What about the Nuggets and Chauncey Billups and Mr. underrated.  I am referring to Carmelo Anthony.  Coming into the league in the 2003 draft with Lebron and D-Wade has led to Anthony being overlooked.  He is the best shooter of the three, and has the ability to take over games at any time.  The addition of Chauncey Billups makes the Nuggets a legitimate contender to win the NBA championship this year.  Chris “Birdman” Andersen has filled in very nicely for the departed Marcus Camby.  The Nuggets have depth, and the talent to keep up with the Lakers.  The big question will be whether or not the Nuggets defense could step it up in the Western Conference finals.  Yao Ming broke his foot in game three and will miss the rest of the playoffs.  The Lakers will most likely beat the Rockets in five games, and the well rested Nuggets will be waiting in LA.   I am hoping for a Lebron vs Melo matchup in the 2009 finals this year.  Everybody loves the Lakers, but don’t count out the new and improved Denver Nuggets.
