NBA playoff predictions

May 16, 2009

Thank you Matt Walks for correcting me on my coach of the year error.  I knew that Mike Brown won coach of the year, but for some reason I had a mental lapse for a second.  Anyway, now that we know that George Karl cannot win coach of the year, let us examine the rest of the NBA playoffs here.

Assuming that the Lakers will take care of the Rockets tomorrow night, the Lakers will be hosting the Denver Nuggets in the western conference finals, and King James and the Cavs await the winner of the Magic Celtics game 7.  I am predicting Cavs Celtics, and Lakers Nuggets.

Cavaliers vs Celtics- The defending champs have played their hearts out, but Lebron and crew are going to be on a lot more rest, meaning fresh legs.  The Celtics will not have an answer for Lebron, and the Cavs will win in 5.

Lakers vs Nuggets-  I feel as though this series will go six games.  Chauncey Billups has proven to be the key ingredient in the Nuggets late season success.  Carmelo Anthony now plays defense which is a very scary thought for opponents.  Karl knows how to get those most out of his guys, and J.R. Smith has taken his game to another level.  The Nuggets have the depth and the offensive power to matchup with the Lakers.  Nene and Andersen down low should be able to contain Bynum and Gasol from monster games throughout the series.  Kobe is Kobe and will put up his 30-40 a night throughout the series.  At the end of the day, the Nuggets are the team with more confidence right now, and I see them prevailing in the west.

Nuggets vs Cavaliers-  Lebron is unstoppable and will completely dominate the finals.  However, the Nuggets have too much depth for the Cavs.  At the point guard position, Billups should be able to outplay Mo Williams.  Carmelo Anthony will be on his game and average 25 per in the finals.  J.R. Smith will hit key 3s throughout the series to give the Nuggets that extra boost.  Down low, Nene and Andersen will be beasts in the paint against Varejao and Ilgauskus. Nuggets in 7.

I think the Magic win tonight. I like Cavs over Magic in 6. Lakers to win tom. Lakers over Denver in 6. I think Lebron is the best player in the world. He is so physically talented. But the problem is the lakers are 2 big. Odom at 6 10, Gasol and Bynum at 7 feet and Kobe will be 2 much for the Cavs. Lebron might be better then Kobe. But, Kobe has the experience and is clutch. The main difference is Kobe has 2 7 footers and a 6 10 stud in Odom… James can’t beat the entire lakers team himself. Lakers in 6 giving Kobe another title. Look at the past 10 champs Shaq and Duncan were on 8 of 10 of those teams! KG was last year. The only team 2 win without 1 of those 3 guys was the pistons. Denver doesn’t have a dominant big man and neither do the cavs. The lakers are 2 big and people forget how important a center is. Thats why I like the magic on the road tonight. I think Howard will dominate.

As always its all about the SIZE in the NBA. Magic dominate as Boston has no big men to defend

I love the Nuggets pick right now. I really do think that they will beat the Lakers in a hard fought series.

Carmelo_Anthony is on a different world right now, playing like he did during his Syracuse run.

I love what George Karl has been able to do with this team too. Kudos to him!
