Kobe mishaps lead to game 3 loss

June 10, 2009

Kobe Bryant scored 17 points in the first quarter on Tuesday night, and I thought it was going to be one of those 50 point nights that would lead to a 3-0 lead for the Lakers.  He only scored 14 the rest of the way, and uncharacteristically missed five free throws, and turned the ball over five times.  Give the Orlando Magic credit, as they averaged an all time NBA finals best, 62.5% from the field.  The fact that they only beat the Lakers by four raises some concerns.  However, the Magic got a well balanced effort, as 5 of their players scored at least 18 points.  Role players always play a lot better at home, and Mickael Pietrus scoring 18, and Rafer Alston putting up 20 definitely helped solidify game 3.  This was a must win for the Magic, and Dwight Howard (21 points, 14 rebounds) finally lived up to his “Superman” nickname.  Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis combined for 39, and the Magic stepped up their defense in the crucial latter of the game.  It will be interesting to see what happens in game 4.  I expect Kobe Bryant to come out firing, but the Lakers should be concerned if the Magic continue this balanced attack.
