Come on Kobe

June 20, 2009

Kobe Bryant has been in the NBA for 13 years now, and is what the league symbolizes.  He wants to follow in Michael Jordan’s footsteps, and be the best player every year, but he isn’t playing his part, completely.  I had to find something on Kobe Bryant to hate on, and I found it.  Why out of nowhere does he have to use informal english during interviews.  When asked whether or not he would return to the Lakers, Kobe stated “I’m not going anywhere. I know I ain’t going nowhere, so it’s just a waste of our breaths just talking about it.”  You just won a championship, and you are getting paid millions of dollars a year in endoresements and salaries.  Not to mention, being a 13 year vet, come on Kobe.  I am not saying that Kobe has to speak perfectly all the time, but when asked a question that is of such public interest, it is wise to play the part.  David Stern is all about sportsmanship, charity, and a portrayal of an athlete that does more than score points.   Lebron is Stern’s bread, and Kobe is the butter.  I might be one of the few that see this Kobe statement as an issue, but for somebody that cares so much about how others perceive him, he might as well do it right.  Kobe also is not the stereotypica hoopster.  His dad played in the NBA, and Kobe spent his childhood with all the resources he needed to turn into an elite basketball player.  That is why when he speaks like that it is aggravating.

This is sad. You should be ashamed of yourself boys, no matter how much traffic you’re supposedly getting. Why on earth are you admonishing Kobe? He’s a millionaire success story. It’s yourself you are angry with. With that in mind, guess we’ll have to find you a basketball hoop to start practicing on. But it’s never really been your perogative to match your heroes, just to trash them, right?
