Tiger is clear favorite in British Open

July 16, 2009

Tiger Woods is teeing off at 409 AM eastern time, and is the clear favorite to win the British Open at Turnberry this year.  His knee seems to be 100% healthy, and Phil Mickelson is home with his wife Amy, who is battling breast cancer.  Even if Phil was playing this weekend, it seems like a Tiger kind of tournament.  Woods has 3 event wins in 9 events this year, but none of those wins have been majors.  He has not won since the 2008 U.S. Open.  Something tells me that Tiger will add his 15th major win to the shelf.  Jack Nicklaus has a career 18 major wins, and Tiger at only 33 years old should be able to plateau Nicklaus by the time he is 35.  Tiger Woods last won the British Open in 2006 at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Northwest England.  This year the Open is is southwestern Scotland, and although the greens will be tough, Tiger should be up for the challenge.
